1973 – 1995
At the age of 17 years, in 1973, I sought out the company of our First Nation’s People. I had the opportunity to visit Kowanyama and I took portraits of the people I met. I used my photography and camera as a way of getting close to the people I had so much admiration and respect for. I was rewarded with many experiences and you can also see some of these on the Facebook page Kowanyama People.
I also returned in the 1990s, later in my photography career where I purposely set out to give the people respect and to honor them with beautiful portraits of their elders. Kowanyama People is held in collections by the Monash Gallery of Art, Melbourne, Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane and has received the Bulletin Mumm Cordon Roudge Photographic Award 1990
